Outsourcing changes CIO's role

The rate at which companies are outsourcing IT services is changing the way CIOs manage IT. Because outsourcing sometimes involves different countries and customs, CIOs must not only adapt to other cultural mores, but find a way to manage effectively and create accountability given cultural and other differences. In some cases, it can make sense to appoint a PIO, or Process Information Officer, to help ensure that IT meets business requirements by relying on skills related to processes, products and engineering.
