At the Oracle OpenWorld 2008 conference this week, the database giant announced that existing customers will be allowed to use their Oracle Database 11g, its Fusion Middleware, and the Oracle Enterprise Manager with Amazon's Compute Cloud, or EC2. No additional licenses will be required to do this. Oracle's target here would be software developers, who should find this news particularly welcoming as they can now use Amazon's services with existing Oracle infrastructure products without having to purchase new licenses. To ease things along even further, Oracle says it plans to release a set of free Amazon Machine Images (AIMs) so that it will be possible to quickly provision virtual machines with the Oracle Database 11g, Fusion Middleware, and Oracle's Enterprise Linux.
