NYPD revamps tech crime arsenal

There have been more than a few headlines in the past year about how technology is helping law enforcement, from the use of radio frequency identification to track criminals to global positioning satellites to investigate stolen items. Three years ago New York City's police force realized how vital technology was becoming and named its first-ever CIO, Jim Onalfo, and since his appointment the tech leader has been busy revamping the state's disaster recovery program and data backup systems. That's just two major IT initiatives he's achieved, in addition to a Real Time Crime Center that the city's top police commissioner calls "real-time crime fighting, too."
