Novell's reasons for going open source
Just like every other tech giant, Novell is taking some giant steps to restrategize and refresh its business goals. While it will keep its arms wrapped around its NetWare product and user base, the company is turning its sights on open-source technology, according to statements from its CEO; and it's not because open source has a cheaper price tag that Novell can pass along. The main reasons are the stability and reliability the technology offers to Novell's product development effort, says CEO Jack Messman. He added that his company's shift is also a direct reaction to what enterprises have been telling his company they need and want going forward.
