New search engine rises to challenge Google

If you haven't heard by now, super-stealth search start-up Cuil launched earlier this week with a search engine that it claims produces better search result than Google. The idea is simple: Instead of simply cataloging keywords on a site and then ranking based on their importance, Cuil works to understand how words are related to return the most relevant results to users.

Before you dismiss it as yet another wannabe start-up, consider that it is created by several top Google engineers, including Anna Patterson, who was the chief architect of the company's TeraGoogle search index. Cuil claims that its search algorithm scans upward of 120 billion web pages, or three times the number that Google currently processes. Even at this early stage, there are no shortages of critics. Why not try it out yourself?
