HP has developed a teeny tiny chip--about the size of a grain of rice--that holds incredible promise when it comes to future computing. The chip, despite its petite size, delivers data at the speed of 10 Mbps and boasts a storage capacity that ranges from 256 kilobits to 4 megabits--meaning it can store pages of text, more than a few digital images or even a short video segment. That kind of ability plus the chip's mobility--as the chip can be embedded in items, such as paper--offers up a whole new world in terms of mobile computing and identification technologies. The only bad news is that HP's Memory Spot won't hit commercial market for about two years.
