An increase in government IT jobs and contractors makes the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area a place where jobs are plentiful, despite the tough economic times that are hitting other parts of the country.

"We're hiring as fast as we can," chief executive Laila Rossi of Platinum Solutions, a Reston, Va.-based information technology firm, told the Washington Post. "The past six months have been the peak for us."

IT firms in the Washington region are experiencing growth thanks to continued government contracts and greater demand for technology in nearly every sector of the government, according to the Post article. The federal government is investing in IT systems to save money in health care, energy costs and communications networks. The stimulus package is expected to contribute at least $15 billion toward IT.
