Is the mouse dead?
You've seen the computer shrink to a size that fits into a handbag. You've seen dial-up access be replaced by WiFi. You've seen mobile computing conquer desktops. So why not eliminate the mouse, too?
There are plenty of products on the market--and more to come--that will make the mouse and the mouse pad obsolete. There's technology where you can just touch the screen and change the page. There's voice technology which lets you issue commands to your computer. And there's even a device where all you have to do is wave and the channel will change.
So does this spell the demise of the mouse? Probably. The mouse has already been downgraded in most laptops. Instead of a stand-alone mouse, there's a pad on the keyboard that moves the cursor around. But will the mouse be missed? Probably not. It's time for it to step aside, isn't it? It should retire and remember the good ol' days when computers needed a mouse to do their magic.
