More regulation means more IT jobs

There are plenty of new regulations coming down the pike as part of the economic stimulus, and that's good news for IT jobs. There will be a huge amount of work with the FDIC, SEC and the Treasury Department. All of these agencies are putting together work for financial services, Tom Pettibone, managing partner at Transition Partners, an outsourcing consulting group, told InfoWorld.com.

"The government will be the fastest-growing job sector in the country," says Pettibone. But plenty of private companies will benefit, too, as the demand for IT accelerates to match the demands of the federal government's plan to stimuluate the economy. The best part about it is that government IT projects can't be offshored, reports InfoWorld.com. They can be outsourced, but only to U.S. companies, Pettibone said. And companies dealing with the government will need major help with IT to get systems working.

Healthcare will be a big winner in this government-sponsored sweepstakes, because IT specialists will be needed to manage and maintain electronic health records. Not only that, doctors in rural areas will be eligible for up to $65,000 per year in additional reimbursements if they use a certified electronic medical record and $45,000 for doctors in cities, says InfoWorld.com. There are plenty of incentives to get healthcare professionals in the loop, and plenty of demand for IT support to do it.
