Microsoft's third-party patching hits hurdles

Microsoft is taking on a brand-new security strategy as it begins offering patches for third-party applications such as Flash, Adobe and Macromedia. To very few users and IT professionals' surprise, it's not going as smoothly as the vendor hoped it would. The initial patch deployment featuring an updated edition of Flash Player to Windows XP, Windows 98 and Windows Millennium users brought a wave of negative feedback. It seems the update actually causes some more issues than the original vulnerability issue.
