Microsoft relents to security vendors' demands

Going public with their concerns about security product integration in Vista has paid off for security vendors McAfee and Symantec. It seems Microsoft will make two big changes to its upcoming operating system that will let third-party security product makers access information from the system's kernel for integration purposes. An industry analyst calls the decision an "acceptable compromise," and says it's a good first step for Microsoft in their quest to become a security vendor in their own right. Yet both competitors and other analysts still have some concerns.
