Microsoft: Internet still not safe enough

The news still isn't good regarding safety and the Internet, according to Scott Charney, executive vice president in Microsoft's Trustworthy Computer Group. Microsoft's operating systems are still vulnerable to attacks, but it's usually the older versions that are taking the big hits according to Charney, in an interview last week with CNET.com

"Some of those widespread exploits take advantage of older platforms," Charney said. The much-maligned Windows Vista wasn't hit in the way that older versions of the operating system were, he added. The Internet should be safer than it is. "There is still a sense that it is not safe enough," Charney said. "It was not built for the uses that we currently use it for, all these commercial transactions."
