Microsoft bought the office.com domain last week from a Brussels-based company. Until now, Microsoft's website for its Office software suite was found at office.microsoft.com. The new domain name will make it easier for consumers to find Microsoft products and buy them from a website that is easy to remember.

In another online change, Microsoft will start charging small businesses a small fee for domain names and web-hosting services

There are other changes in the international world of Internet names, too.

ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a global not-for-profit public-benefit corporation that oversees the coordination of international IP addresses and domain names, is working on developing Internet address names from non-Latin-based languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Russian.
