Managing the chaos of mobility
While companies are eager to move to a more mobile-centric business model, executives are worried about the complexity involved. It falls to the CIO to sort it all out. Unlike other areas of technology which benefit from history and experience, the world of mobile technology in the workplace is more like the Wild West. CIOs are faced with creating their own best practices around mobile technology, determining the business case, and dealing with standards, or a lack thereof. To make sense out of the chaos, examine your internal processes carefully to determine the best way to leverage mobility in your existing networks. Secondly, work through issues like enhanced productivity, extending communications, direct cost savings, and revenue and profitability issues. It's also important to standardize on one of the two major cellular network standards, as well as on mobile operating systems.
