Managed security in vogue

Budgets are tight, but there is no way to skimp on security, IT shops are finding. A new survey found that many IT organizations recognize they have to keep security at the forefront of their budgets, but now they are turning to managed security services to help keep costs in line, reports CIO.com.

A new survey by Nemertes Research said that 47 percent of those surveyed are using managed security services to help protect their systems and save money. Smaller and medium-sized companies are on board, too--46 percent are using managed security services, according to the survey.

However, the question remains whether outsourced security services are as good as in-house operations and are the cost savings worth it in the long run? A great deal may depend on company operations and the quality of the provider.
