Mac attack threatens OS X
This is noteworthy just because it you don't often see Apple and "security risk" in the same sentence. Symantec sent up the red flag and warned Mac users that the Samba open-source file and print sharing application is vulnerable to attack. Samba is used by Linux distributions for file and print-sharing with Windows systems. According to an article in ComputerWorld, Symantec officials believe that "[t]here is a very high probability that attackers will attempt to leverage [the exploit] to compromise Apple users, especially those connected to wireless networks…Wireless networks are an especially high threat, because users' systems may be exposing the service that may otherwise be protected by a gateway firewall installed on a home network." Â
