Looking for a job? Look online

There's a new wave of job websites that are using technology to place job seekers with open positions. A recent survey by Forrester Research finds that nearly two-thirds of the 127 IT managers surveyed said they posted vacancies on their companies' websites. Most companies--between 70 and 80 percent--of organizations with IT staffs of 100 or more, relied on this strategy, the survey found.

Among the popular online job sites: Monster, CareerBuilder and Jobfox, not to mention Indeed, The Ladders and QuietAgent. And the rules are changing, according to hiring managers.

"The new way to look at a job search is a 'people search' process, which makes candidates visible to the employers they are targeting,"Michele Porfilio, a strategic sourcing director for Crowe Horwath LLP, a public accounting and consulting firm, tells GovInfoSecurity.com.

Social networking sites allow candidates to conduct a people search, to find employees who work at their targeted list of companies and help build relationships with them, eventually leading to job opportunities, she said.
