Logitech serves up DIY IT
Here's a quirky twist on DIY IT: When employees at Logitech need computer gear, such as laptop batteries, headsets or keyboards, they don't have to bother calling IT; they simply purchase what they need out of vending machines in the cafeteria using their employee badges, reports Rachel King at Businessweek.
The serve-yourself procurement model saves the IT department a lot of time. There are no forms to fill out and there's no waiting around. Good for morale all around.
Logitech has installed two of the vending machines at its headquarters in Fremont, Calif., and plans to set up more at its design center in Taiwan and European headquarters in Switzerland.
Facebook is said to have a similar vending machine system at its headquarters, which is where Logitech got the idea.
