LexisNexis warns of breaches

Information broker LexisNexis is warning more than 13,000 consumers that a Florida man facing charges in a racketeering conspiracy may have accessed sensitive consumer databases that were used to track terrorists.

In a letter sent out to consumers last month, LexisNexis warned that Lee Klein, 39, of Boynton Beach, Fla., may have used his access to LexisNexis' Seisint databases to steal information about individuals. The U.S. Department of Justice accused Klein of using computer databases to get information on potential extortion or assault targets. He's also accused of getting information for the criminal enterprise about individuals involved with law enforcement.

This case may justs be an oddball in the cyberworld. It sounds like small potatoes compared to some of the data breaches out there these days, but it is also an example of how data breaches bubble beneath the surface.
