Keeping up with the pace of change

I had the opportunity to interview Erin Griffin, the CIO of Loyola Marymount University, a few weeks ago. We discussed a number initiatives she and her staff of 65 are involved with, including a series of projects dealing with identity management, analytic software, data warehousing, business intelligence and building out the university's portal. Aside from technology, we also talked about how she motivates her staff. She's a strong believer in using training and growth opportunities to manage change within the organization. In her words: "If you feel that you're growing [professionally], then the pace of change is less threatening because you're paralleling that change." Also in this issue, I highlight an article from CIO magazine that offers some tips on better networking and relationship building--absolutely critical skills for any executive. -Patty
