IT worker confidence drops

A new survey finds that overall confidence among U.S. information technology workers has decreased in the fourth quarter of 2008. That's really no surprise given the economic gloom fueled by Wall Street's meltdown and continued bad news in every industry sector in the U.S.

The survey, conducted by Technisource, the technology placement division of Spherion Corp., showed increased concern about the strength of the economy and the number of jobs available. IT workers' who describe themselves as confident in their ability to find another job decreased by seven points to 40.4 percent from 47.4 percent in the third quarter. There were  2,852 respondents to the survey.

"There is no doubt that we are in a historic economic slowdown," said Michael Winwood, president of Technisource. "Many industries are under intense scrutiny for cost-cutting. While times are tough, we are advising our clients to seize opportunities to make changes that improve productivity."
