IT trends shape CIO agendas

Several technology trends will shape how CIOs work to meet corporate goals this year. Security underlies many of them; more sophisticated attacks are expected to continue, and people's lack of adherence to security procedures will remain the dominant security and privacy risk. Top security technologies include wireless security solutions, forensics, storage security and business continuity/disaster recovery solutions. Other burgeoning areas include the ability of simulation modeling to help drive better decision-making, the shift from monolithic to granular applications along with a move to Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA), a shift in IT spending from maintenance to development and the move toward infrastructure virtualization.
