An IT security job is a secure job

IT managers across the board believe that a security job at any IT shop is a job that is recession-proof. It's an area that managers never cut under any circumstances, according to Nemertes, an IT research firm.

Managers say security jobs are essential to keep data flowing, phones ringing and sites secure.

The proof is in the paycheck. IT security paychecks were higher in 2009 than in any other area, reports NetworkWorld. A senior security professional made an average of $95,000 a year and a junior security person made $63,000.

Despite the good pay and the secure job, more than 20 percent of companies surveyed reported they were having trouble hiring the right security person. The eastern part of the United States is the only area of the country reporting no shortages of qualified personnel, the research firm said.
