IT management - a complicated challenge in 2010

No one ever said your job was easy. As an IT manager, you have the best of all worlds and the worst.

It's been an especially difficult year. And your skills have been challenged by the economic climate, the increase in cyber attacks and the challenge of keeping up with new technologies all the time.

As 2010 rolls around, it's important to be ready for the next challenge. And there will be at least one.

A new survey by three research groups--Neochange, SandHill.com and the Technology Services Industry Association--finds that two-thirds of 353 software buyers and sellers say the enterprise IT environment is more complex than it was five years ago.

More than half of those surveyed say that fewer than half of users are effectively using installed software in their enterprise, meaning they are not reaping the benefits of reduced costs.

And nearly 60 percent say that IT still gets blamed for failures. Not a surprise really, but a total pain for a CIO trying to reach success.

The bottom line is that IT is going through a messy time right now. And it takes patience and perseverance to navigate these choppy waters. One day, we predict you will be successful and put all the moving pieces in the right place.
