IT jobs in jeopardy
The renewal of federal research and development tax credit is high on the agenda of the high-technology sector, and it is attempting--so far without success--to put pressure on Congress to act.
The tax credit expired at the end of last year, and Congress recently recessed for the summer without taking any action. ComputerWorld reports that the Information Technology Association of America has been pressing for the renewal and sought to highlight the lapse by Congress with a jobs-in-jeopardy ticker on its Web site.
The ITAA estimates that the tax credit would help create or maintain 141,700 jobs this year. It claimbs that an average of 388 jobs are being lost per day because of congressional inaction.
