IT job thaw on the way

The IT workforce took a big hit this year, but IT recruiters are optimistic that the end of the decline is in sight. While the prediction is that IT job numbers will continue to decline through the end of the summer, analysts believe the job scene will change by the fourth quarter of this year, according to Computerworld.

"I think we are definitely going to see a solid year of decline," said Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance which analyzes federal labor data on IT-related occupations. He told the publication that when hiring does pick up again, employers may opt for contract laborers over permanent staff because "people are going to be cautious coming out of a painful recession."

Steve Watson, international chairman and managing director of Dallas-based recruiting firm, Stanton Chase International told Computerworld that he is optimistic that hiring will resume by the end of this year because many corporate and government IT projects have been in a bottleneck due to tighter budgets.

While the dust has not completely settled, there is a sense that new job openings in the coming months may provide comfort to struggling and understaffed IT departments.
