IT job prospects on upswing

Yahoo is in a layoff mode and so is Microsoft. But a new poll of senior technology professionals found that more than 50 percent of those surveyed are currently hiring. The survey, conducted by Polachi, Inc., a Framingham, Mass.-based executive search firm, found that 122 senior technology professionals, including 67 CEOs and company founders, were positive about the hiring prospects for IT talent. It also found that, among those companies hiring, 93 percent predicted that their demand for senior talent would remain the same or increase, reports the Wall Street Journal.

This survey flies in the face of another poll of CEOs in Silicon Valley which found a few months ago that the majority of CEOs were feeling pessimistic about employment prospects in the tech field.

Charley Polachi, a partner at Polachi, said his company's survey identified an upturn with improving economic conditions nationwide. Nevertheless, with the nation's unemployment rate nearly at 9 percent, there is still plenty of reason to remain cautious about IT job prospects in the near future. "I do think there is a little bit of momentum going here. I think we'll have a slow and orderly climb out of the ditch we've dug for ourselves," he told WSJ, "though I'm not ready to say it's all over."
