IT job losses slow down
It's tough to read the tea leaves, but there are some positive signs for IT workers, according to an analysis by Foote Partners. While the overall national unemployment rate hit 9.5 percent, an estimated 1,800 fewer IT jobs were lost in June than were lost in May.
The recession had minimal impact on demand for IT skills in areas such as architecture, business process, security, communications, e-commerce and several infrastructure specialties, according to CEO David Foote.
Tech workers in the management/technical consulting services segment and also those in the communications equipment segment lost total positions of 1,100 and 2,100, respectively. And workers in the computer and peripheral equipment category lost 900 fewer jobs in June than in May.
IT professionals will have better luck than those in other professions such as those in the automobile industry. Yes, it seems we are seeing some light at the end of the tunnel, according to this report. But we're not out of the woods just yet.
