IT execs turn to Linux to save money

A new study has found that the need for cost-cutting has prompted CIOs to consider using Linux. The survey, conducted by IDC and sponsored by Novell, found that more than three quarters of IT executives surveyed said they are actively reviewing or have decided to increase use of a Linux server this year.

The reason is straightforward. The economic downturn is hurting everyone, and companies need to find ways to save money. The survey conveniently coincides with Novell's plan to unveil its new versions of its server and desktop operating system that is being called Suse Linux. It will compete with Windows 7, Microsoft's latest operating system that will replace the much maligned Vista, reports TechWorld.com.
