IT budgets are more targeted

With the economy sliding downward and plenty of companies going out of business, it's surprising to note that companies are not making drastic cuts to IT budgets; however, the type of investment is changing, according to enterprise software supplier SAP.

According to feedback from over 100 companies, firms are looking for "bite-sized" projects that meet specific business needs and have measurable returns, says Verlin Youd, senior vice president for trading industries at SAP. IT investments are coming under greater scrutiny, and IT executives need to have very strong business cases to get any project approved, he said. Customers also want fast implementation, quick returns on investment and low costs.
