IT as an engine for growth

Savvy CIOs prize innovation above practically anything else, knowing that it can set their companies apart. Yet innovative experiments often fail, causing CIOs to lose their bragging rights--and IT staff to spin their wheels for months on end, with nothing to show for it. To stem the tide, some companies are looking outside of their own four walls for innovation, a move that some say reduces risk and preserves productivity. This trend presents a great opportunity for CIOs to use IT as an engine for growth toward a more distributed innovation process. Internal IT can, of course, be involved, but risk is mitigated, and everyone wins.
