Intel releases more information on Nehalem processor
Intel released more information on Tuesday pertaining to its upcoming Nehalem processor. According to a paper released by Intel, Nehalem will feature Intel's new QuickPath interconnect technology for up to 25 gigabytes per second of socket-to-socket performance.
Rajesh Kumar, Intel's director of the Circuit & Low Power Technologies Digital Enterprise Group, noted that Nehalem will integrate more components than previous Intel chips. With the aid of an integrated DDR3 memory controller, it is possible to achieve a performance in the region of 32 gigabytes per second of data going to the main memory. Kumar claims this is three times faster than existing competition today.
Chinese-language site HKEPC is showing three versions of this processor, all of which have four processing cores with 8MB of level-3 cache memory. The Nehalem is expected to be released in the fourth quarter this year.
