Intel leads economic recovery

For the third straight quarter, computer chipmaker Intel Corp. announced that its sales are improving, jumping 17 percent to 9.4 billion. The good news from Intel was further evidence that tech's recovery in the marketplace is gathering steam, according to Business Week magazine.

Intel also reported surprisingly strong corporate demand for servers using its new Nehalem processors, and said business improved in all geographies. "They blew out everything," Leslie Fiering, vice-president of Gartner Research, tells Business Week. "There wasn't any bad news there at all."

Intel is considered a bellwether of global interest in computers and other hardware. It's the world's largest maker of chips that run computers.

Intel isn't the only company showing positive signs of recovery. Hewlett-Packard and Dell have also noticed a pickup in consumer demand, especially for low-priced machines but have not signaled as strong a rebound as Intel just did, according to the magazine.
