Intel eyes graphics card market

Intel has unveiled a new family of microprocessors which it says will be initially targeted at the graphics card for the personal computer. Code-named Larrabee, it will feature between 16 and 48 cores instead of the single and dual cores commonly found in current generation of processors. Intel argues that having a greater number of smaller cores will result in a superior experience for gamers.

In fact, Intel will continue to focus on its multi core design, eventually putting up to hundreds of processing units on a single silicon chip. Moving ahead, Intel plans to make such a chip design available across a spectrum of devices--ranging from the personal computers to handhelds and even supercomputers. Until then, Intel hopes to capture as much as a third of the graphics add-on market--with an estimated worth of $4.6 billion, in 2010.

I hope intel wont get a chance to buyoff systembuilders in this tier of the market since it would harm competition like intel dous in the desktopmarket were they give huge bonusses to manufacturers like HP and Dell by giving them 100.000 free cpus if they exclude amd from the market. i dont like such monopolistic abuses same as they do in india btw by excluding amd from goverment contracts. and yes amd athlon dual cores are better cheaper and more stable then intels worthless pentium dual cores. and know this that overclockers is just a very small market of nerds out there. all by all i just hate monopolism and i dont want to see intel only in the stores in 2012. i want amd and nvidia to stay there. and what intel plans with its worthless larrabee which isnt even faster then a 8800gts with 320mb from 2006 is to excpell nvidia and amd from the market by buying off the game developers to not make games compatible and optimized for amd and nvidia solutions. which basicly means pc gaming might be at great danger if intel gets a chance to pull it off.
