Mumbai terror attacks will not thwart IT
The terrorist attacks last week in Mumbai's business district are the most brazen and horrific in a string of incidents that have taken place in India. Such violence is meant to unsettle India politically and economically, especially with the latest coordinated strike at the heart of India's financial and tourist center.
But many experts do not believe the attacks will deter business, and especially not the IT operations that are thriving in India.
"It is sad that this has happened, but we are confident that India will bounce back to normalcy," Vidya Natampally, director of strategy at Microsoft Research India, told ComputerWorld.com."We are committed to staying on in India."
Dell issued a travel advisory to its staff, advising caution and due diligence when traveling to India.
A number of technology companies including Oracle, Microsoft and Dell run large software development and call center operations in India. Ever since the threat of terrorism increased last year, these companies have tightened security at their facilities.
