The incredible shrinking data center

The size of data centers is going down, down, down. Fueled by the economic downturn, many IT executives are now saying that smaller is better when it comes to data center size.

IT managers are buying into this idea by using virtualization, alternative energy sources and multifunctional hardware, according to a Computerworld article. The results have been dramatic: Smaller utility bills, reduced property costs and less maintenance. More than half of a data center's cost is the energy bill, and energy efficiency is a win-win situation for any data center and its managers.
