In aligning with business, IT leaders need to align

Everyone talks about how IT has to be aligned with the business. But how many of those experts realize that the key to making that happen is making sure that the CIO and tech leadership are aligned with other executives and their business goals. Alignment, as a skill, is more about social networking than technology capabilities, according to Laurie Orlov, vice president and director of research for Forrester Research. Today's tech leaders need to "fully communicate what IT is doing and why that is important to the business strategy," says Orlov.
