IBM seeks more Hispanics for IT jobs
The Hispanic population in the U.S. is booming and will continue to grow, but Latinos now fill only a small percentage of technology jobs. IBM hosted a summit in New York this week with leaders from several other large companies, including Lockheed Martin, Univision, and ExxonMobil, to discuss how to recruit more Hispanics into scientific, technology, engineering, and math careers. With an eye to the future, IBM has announced it is launching a series of initiatives involving schools, other corporations, nonprofits and the government to help to prepare more Hispanics for technology jobs. CIOs at other companies should take notice, and seek to follow the lead of the computer giant.
