The hunt for IT talent

The competition for IT talent is growing, fueled in part by social networking sites that make finding the right candidate easier to do. "We are seeing a war for talent, and it's been building up for the past three years," Dan Reynolds, CEO of The Brokers Group LLC, a Princeton, N.J.-based IT staffing firm, told Computerworld. While the number of IT grads from colleges has been dropping, and the baby boomers are starting to retire, there are plenty of ways to tap into the talent bank. They include using social networks to advertise open positions as well as sites to post resumes. And then there are blogs and Wikis to help spread the word.

Many executives say it is time to think outside normal boundaries. "Those who believe the search for [IT] talent is limited to the U.S. are badly mistaken," Bob Worrall, CIO at Sun Microsystems, told ComputerWorld. Let us know how you find talented people, hire them and keep them. Are you still into paper applications or have you moved on with the 21st century? Let us know in the comments.
