Huge layoffs expected at Intel
The close of Labor Day weekend will likely bring major labor cuts at Intel as the company continues its efforts to streamline and revamp in the wake of greater competition from AMD. A huge layoff--projected to effect about 10 percent of the vendor's worldwide workforce of 100,000--is expected to be announced on Tuesday, though Intel is mum on the labor reduction plans. Intel cut 1,000 management jobs earlier this summer in a quest to speed decision making within the company.
