HP reorganizes its printer business

In a bid to further increase efficiency, Hewlett Packard will streamline the five units in its printer business down to just three. The reorganization was announced by print division chief Vyomesh Joshi via webcast to employees and will take place later this summer. HP's commercial printer operations will be joined with its laser-jet business, while its consumer suppliers unit will go together with its ink-jet division. The third unit will focus on areas such as billboards, signage and professional photography. HP says that the new move will not result in large-scale lay-offs.

It should be noted that HP's printer business brought in a robust $2.38 billion over the first two fiscal quarters. In fact, some estimates claim that it accounts for a 42 percent chunk of HP's profits.
