How to reach out to women in IT

It may be time to create a mentoring program at your company for women in IT, suggests the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology. The organization recently released research on nearly 1,800 women who work for technology companies in Silicon Valley.

Here are a few of the institute's ideas for helping women in IT:

  • Women need mentors, so why not be a mentor to the growing number of IT women at your office?
  • Encourage a family-friendly company culture. Institute flextime and job sharing. Add a generous maternity leave.
  • Just one in four college or graduate science students today are women. Help make IT a better place for women to aspire to.

With a dearth of qualified IT professionals across the workforce, helping encourage talented women to pick IT as a profession can only be a win-win situation for your company.
