How long does a CIO job really last?
InformationWeek.com says a new CIO analytics report shows that 53 percent of CIOs say they have been in their jobs five years or more. According to the survey, 5 percent were in their jobs less than a year; 23 percent from one to three years; and 19 percent from three to five years.
Does this mean CIOs are hanging in there longer? No. The same survey from a year ago had 59 percent of the CIOs in their jobs five years or longer. Chris Patrick of the executive recruiter Egon Zehnder said he has been "seeing a fluctuation between two-and-a-half years and the three-year mark." He also said the economics of the industry where a CIO is employed plays a key role in how long that person lasts.
