Holiday wish list for techies
It's hard to believe, but Thanksgiving is upon us, and soon it will be the holiday buying season. We may be in a recession, but that doesn't mean techies can't wish for some whiz-bang devices to bring cheer to the home front. CIO.com has complied such a wish list, so here are a few items to think about:
- Funkwerk Americas' Ego Flash, a Bluetooth-enabled, hands-free car kit that has an OLED display, allowing you to view phone contacts, call logs and caller ID, and make phone calls via voice recognition. The console integrates with your car's stereo system and can play MP3 music downloaded to your mobile phone or any other Bluetooth-enabled player. The price is $240.
- The Aviator, a hand-crafted, retro-inspired custom-made keyboard constructed with a brushed aluminum frame, a black, felt faceplate and jewel-style LEDs similar to an airplane's instrument panel. The cost is a mere $1,200 to $1,500.
- Sling Media's Slingbox PRO-HD, a device that streams HD content from a home television source such as a cable box or satellite dish to a laptop, desktop or smartphone. To use this system you need a high-speed network connection with upload speeds of 1.5 megabits per second and an HD-compatible laptop or desktop computer. The cost is $300.
- Solio's advanced hybrid charger called the Magnesium Edition uses solar panels to collect and store power. One hour of sun will power your iPod for an hour-and its adapter tips plug in to a variety of mobile devices, limiting the need to lug multiple chargers around. The costs $170.
- Sennheiser's PXC 450 NoiseGard travel headphones is the perfect answer to reduce ambient noise by up to 90 percent. The headphones collapse for easy transport. They also come with adapters if you want to plug in during an airplane ride. The cost is $400.
