Help shape good IT candidates
Instead of complaining about the dearth of good job candidates, why not lend a hand by teaching a course or two at your local university? Computer science programs often struggle to align with the needs of IT organizations because they focus too much on programming, and teach students about tools that are obsolete by the time they graduate. CIOs can help fix that, while teaching key business skills that IT organizations are seeking. What's more, a dose of real world experience can change students' perspectives and can help foster enthusiasm. If you can't teach a course, at least consider being a guest lecturer.
