Having a plan in place before potential data loss
There is perhaps nothing as disturbing to a CIO as a security breach that results in the loss of private or confidential data. Before anything like that even has a chance of occurring in your organization, be prepared. That means asking yourself what your obligations are to protect the data and what your organization's obligations are regarding notifying the potential victims of identity theft. Also determine the timing of notifications and create a working definition of "breach".
