Half of IT execs expect a raise in 2010

An annual survey conducted by SearchCIO.com revealed that 50 percent of IT executives responding to the poll expect a pay increase next year. This is a big jump from last year's survey, when only 38 percent of those polled expected a raise.

The 949 respondents expect an average pay increase of 4.8 percent for 2010, and a median pay increase of 3.5 percent. Conversely, 11 percent expect either a pay cut (4 percent) or an unpaid furlough (7 percent), reports SearchCIO.com. The number of respondents expecting pay cuts decreased from last year, as well.

In addition to the compensation data and predictions, the website also looked at some more unusual metrics. For example, the survey found that "younger stage companies seem to be offering higher raises than more mature ones." It also examined morale at companies, finding that "those citing their workplaces as 'pessimistic' had strong salary growth...showing that perhaps evidence of the economic recovery is in sight."
