Hackers hijack Internet organizations

A group of Turkish hackers managed to hack into key systems to deface the official website of both IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) and ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers). Attempts to reach a number of sites under the jurisdiction of IANA and ICANN were redirected instead to an illegitimate site. The irony here is that IANA is responsible for managing the DNS root zone and DNS operators, while ICANN is tasked with allocating IP address space and managing domain naming at top-levels.

There have been a number of high-profile DNS hijacks of late, and the hackers probably weren't too far from the mark when users saw the taunting message: "You think that you control the domains but you don't! Everybody knows wrong. We control the domains including ICANN! Don't you believe us?"
