Hacker exposes eBay users' personal info

In what appeared to be another security breakdown this week, the names and personal information of 1,200 eBay users, including credit card numbers, appeared on eBay's Trust & Safety Discussion Board on Tuesday. In just 90 minutes, eBay shut down the discussion board. eBay says it is confident that there was no breach of its network. "eBay's servers were not breached," spokeswoman Catherine England, told NetworkWorld. She added that eBay has determined which credit card numbers were posted and discovered that the information does not match up with credit card information that eBay stores and thus, was not related to any financial information kept on file at either eBay or PayPal. In fact, eBay doubts that the credit card numbers that were posted are valid at all. Still, eBay says it is contacting each of the 1,200 affected eBay users individually by phone. Ars Technica, meanwhile, reported that the hacker posted a video of his exploits on YouTube in celebration of his accomplishments. (The video has since been taken down).
