The IT community knew that nothing was changing this year for H-1B visas. And so it comes as no surprise that it took just a week for government authorities to announce that the number of visa applications for 2009--85,000--had been taken. Last year, the U.S. department of citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) said they had given out all of the applications on April 1, the day that the 2008 applications became available. This year, USCIS didn't say, but we can assume they went very, very quickly. This is an issue that many people have opinions on, and we'd like to hear yours in the comments.

We should prioritize the applicants, say for those are already here and got an offer. For those outsiders, they must wait for ...

That is 85000 too many Visas per year - there are plenty of capable people in the US already -promote and finance IT training for US citizens or resident aliens. Don't bring in more people!!!

1. For those already in USA, send the applicants back to their homeland after the tenure....NO EXTENSIONS!!!
CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME !!! LET US TAKE CARE OF PEOPLE OVER HERE, BEFORE WORRYING ABOUT OTHERS.
2. FREEZE ... I mean NOBODY to the IT Sector from outside USA for the next 5 - 10 years.
3. Let the local talent do the job. Companies must learn to use local help - If companies sell their products here in the USA, they SHOULD use local workforce. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
4. Companies have found ways to use CHEAP LABOR (from overseas) and sell the products for TOP $$ (to people in USA). When are they going to realize that if we here in the USA, DO NOT HAVE JOBS, how can we buy anything!!!!!
5. Other than 'basic' living expenses, overseas workforce SEND ALL THEIR MONEY BACK TO THEIR COUNTRY! It is not invested here back in our economy. Any wonder who it is helping.
Well, I will stop for now.

Looks like Congress wants to GIVE AWAY good hi-tech jobs to foreign countries while American's continue to LOOK for Work that pays a decent wage in which to live. I know John McCain loves to offshore and outsource, he has supported that policy for several years. Of course he gets more corporate money to adopt that policy. But I chalenge the Congress to find a way to OFFSHORE CONGRESSMEN - since we could probably get them cheaper and less corrupt than we have now.
Ultimately, America is de-incentivizing a good education and dream of a hi-tech American workforce by supporting the increased H1B Visa program. Why would any college freshman want to pursue technology career if the American corporations are going to offshore and outsource the work to cheaper workers?
It is yet another SAD EXAMPLE of the lack of Patriotism in Washington for it's own people!
I say CLEAN OUT CONGRESS - VOTE Every last one of them out that supported this H1b-Visa extension to 85,000 ! I'm MAD as Heck and I am not going to take it anymore !

Let's worry about Americans getting jobs for a change. in this economy i find it incredulous that there's even an argument for needing foreign labor
